Practicum Theatre
As fresh and innovative as the Edinburgh Festival but all year round in London
- Selina Mills, The Telegraph
Practicum Theatre is a new writing company whose mandate embraces international collaboration and encourages a cross pollonation of varying cultures from around the world in order to create new and exciting theatre. It was formed in order to experiment with writing whether it be with its form, performance venue or creation. Its intent is to make theatre for people who are not only interested in theatre but to that of a wider audience - theatre intended to serve a purpose without elaboration.
In addition to annual BREAKING NEWS events where they commission short plays in response to current international news issues, Practicum Theatre regularly hold play readings and workshops, produce a variety of short and full length plays, and also teach writing and performing to a range of ages and backgrounds.
Their 2006 season has included a sell-out run of BREAKING NEWS: THE RACHEL CORRIE BAN, which was followed by an evening of two solo shows, HOSTAGE/BLEACH by Heather Taylor, both in association with Theatre 503. HOSTAGE/BLEACH transferred with success to The New Place Theatre in St. Albans for a short revival at the end of September and will be taken to Edinburgh in 2007. In November, Practicum participated in an international collaboration with 8-0-8 Productions in Calgary, Canada for the CANNOT BE UNDONE Playwrighting festival, where Heather Taylor's play PRISMS was be presented.
